Nourishing Our Youth FuFunding Supports Scratch Cooking at Cape Henlopen

Cape Henlopen School District is proud to share that our School Nutrition Services program has received funding through Giant Food’s Nourishing Our Youth program. This generous support is helping us invest in equipment that will increase our ability to prepare more fresh, nutritious meals from scratch in our school cafeterias.

The equipment purchased with these funds will help ease some of the labor and operational challenges associated with scratch cooking, giving our cafeteria teams the tools they need to prepare fresh foods more efficiently and consistently.

Why does this matter for our students?

School meals play an important role in helping students arrive in the classroom ready to learn, grow, and succeed. By increasing our capacity for scratch cooking, we can offer students greater variety, fresh ingredients, and meals that are both nutritious and appealing.

This investment also supports our commitment to continually improving the school meal experience. Our goal is to create meals that students want to eat while providing the nutrition they need throughout the school day.
